While we’re on the subject of natural vs. microphoned voice projection, a horrifying thought occurred to me while suffering through The Little Mermaid:

Might autotune eventually descend upon Broadway?

It’s been used in concerts for ages, so perhaps it’s only a matter of time before coffer-hungry producers realize it would allow them to cast superstars who can’t fully carry a tune, but who can fully carry ticket sales.

Will audiences notice?

Will audiences care?

Has it already happened?

The same questions can be asked about the movies … or do different mediums come with different expectations and standards?
