The Last Voyage of the Demeter is an official Universal Pictures Monster Movie that’s basically “What if Pirates of the Caribbean / Master and Commander, but Dracula.”
Which, gotta say, sounds promising!
As does the idea that the movie sneakily doubles as an unconventional Van Helsing(esque) origin story.
As does the sequel set-up of this Helsing figure hunting Dracula around historical London.
All of which are a helpful reminder that good premises make not good movies, at least not necessarily so.
I wanted the style to be more heightened in *any* direction (more over the top? more horror? sillier? goofier?).
Also, did Dracula need to be a generic CGI ghouly?
I guess it’s a When in Rome situation for the guy, if by “Rome” we mean “21st century Hollywood.”
