Nepo Hawking

Remember my screed about the artistic upsides to Nepo Babies?

Well, Maya Hawke is doubling down on my ideas.

In The Kill Room — [trailer voice] now playing at a multiplex near you!!! — she acts opposite Madre Uma Thurman, as a petulant artist who must be reigned in by Uma’s gallery-owner character; can you say, “Art imitating a mother-daughter relationship?”

And Wildcat premiered on the festival circuit last month, in which she stars under the writing and direction of Papa Ethan Hawke.

If Nepo Babies start their careers in conversation with the artistry of their progenitors, then Maya Hawke is really leaning into confronting and continuing these conversations head-on parent-on.
