My Love Affair with Marriage is Inside Out for adults. 

And it’s my favorite animated film of 2023. 

Both movies anthropomorphize the chemical processes that inform our coming-of-age maturation. Inside Out focuses on personifying the adolescent sector of this journey, while My Love Affair with Marriage stretches to embody the science of the to-puberty-and-beyond! years as well.

And its ending Pulls a Nora when the main character breaks free from the movie’s animation style — the very fabric of its visual reality — to signal her liberation from the restrictive existence of her so-far depicted world.
