If you want to sell out an off-Broadway show, cast Will Brill.
Do you realize how rare it is for a journeyman thespian — heck, for any actor, no matter their pedigree — to star in THREE STRAIGHT rave-reviewed, sold-out productions?? It’s not like everyone flocked to A Case for the Existence of God, Uncle Vanya, AND Stereophonic primarily because of the relatively (and shamefully) no-name Will Brill, which makes their commercial AND artistic success all the more impressive.
And his prior Broadway work ain’t too shabby: You Can’t Take It with You, and dark Oklahoma!.
All hail his Brilliance.

BUT BEFORE I GO, and while on the subject of Stereophonic’s casting, did anyone else notice that Andrew R. Butler — a literal songwriter — played the character least involved in the band’s music-making?? Which feels too coincidental not to have some intentionality behind it…
