Jonah pulls a Madeline Collins.
By the conclusion of Rachel Bonds’ new play — at Roundabout through March 10 — it might not be clear as to why the character of Jonah was chosen to title this specific story. Why name the whole shebang after a seemingly tertiary figure? Why is his role — especially in relation to the character who is objectively the lead here — important enough to deserve such a distinction? What does he represent?
Obviously, all of these questions can provoke countless answers.
And then you have to ask yourself how Jonah connects to the most famous Jonah in the history of everything: the whale homie from The Bible.
