Tube of Rubes

Streaming has made documentaries more popular than ever.

And a quartet of new ones seem to signal a trend: streamers releasing documentaries intended to raise interest in binging a related sector of the streamer’s library, like so:

Disney+ recently unleashed Ron Howard’s bio-doc Jim Henson: Idea Man onto the digital world, and guess where you can stream the majority of Henson’s body of work? Disney+.

¡Casa Bonita Mi Amor! will be available on Paramount+ later this year, chronicling a South Park-adjacent venture from Trey Parker and Matt Stone. And where can you stream South Park? Paramount+.

Alex Gibney’s documentary Wise Guy: David Chase and The Sopranos will stream on Max later in the year, and this behind-the-scenes overview will be sure to convince audiences to (re)binge the original series…on Max.

Also coming to Max: Elizabeth Taylor: The Lost Tapes, which touches upon movies a mere click away across Warner Brothers platforms.
