Max IF

Does anyone else find it weird that we’ve had three imaginary-friend movies this year, one released every other month since March?

First out of the gate came from the horror genre: Imaginary.

Then May saw the family-friendly IF, which stands for…Imaginary Friend.

And this month, Netflix unleashed the anime movie The Imaginary unto the world.

And while we’re on the topic of coincidental overlaps at the movies…

This year’s big July 4 releases were MaXXXine — named after the titular character — and Despicable Me 4.

The name of the Will Ferrell-voiced villain in the latter?

Maxime.

What’re the odds!

AND, in both Maxxxine and ANOTHER July 4 release — Netflix’s Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F — Kevin Bacon is cast to harken back to the 1980s, as an emblematic representation of that decade’s cinema.

One more MaXXXine-related overlap:

2024, the year of horror movies where the horror happens while the characters are on a set shooting a movie or TV show: The Exorcism, Late Night with the Devil, and MaXXXine.
