As a Millenial Jew, I’m starting to see myself in art.
Obviously Jews have been represented thoroughly in the arts for my entire life, but a recent slew of pieces seem to focus primarily and explicitly on probing how my generation of American Jews’ relationship to the religion informs our lives:
- Joshua Harmon’s plays Bad Jews and Prayer for the French Republic
- Taffy Brodesser-Akner’s novel Long Island Compromise
- The movies Shiva Baby and the now-in-theaters Between the Temples, which is basically a 21st century Jewish Harold and Maude.
