October 4, 2024: the day that two bonafide auteurs dumped their latest movies into theaters with zero fanfare.
Quentin Dupieux’s Daaaaaalí! and Errol Morris’ Separated are now running in New York at The Quad and IFC Center. But based on my no-show audiences, few moviegoers know they’re even on the theatrical menu at the moment.
I’m not naive enough to believe that Dupieux and Morris are household names. . . but the diehards should be familiar, and if you are, then maybe you agree that their careers deserve the completism treatment.
In this house, it’s criminal that some of Dupieux’s movies never even play NYC.
