Right Kind of Wrong

I spent most of Tammy Faye unsure what to make of this new musical’s tone.

Tones?

Tones.

But maybe that’s fitting for a TAMMY FAYE Broadway musical.

What’s the appropriate tone to tell her story through song, in relationship to 2024 mores? A messy, even sloppy mishmash feels like an apt register for such an undertaking. Is her tale — and, thus, the musical itself —  sincere or satire, saccharine or camp?

Yes. Sometimes simultaneously, sometimes hard-pivoting from moment to moment.
