In Perpetuity

Art has the power to permanently change your association with other pieces of art. 

I’ve documented two stage iterations of this phenomenon before, with A Doll’s House and Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead. Now let’s add two recent entries to this hallowed list:

Land Acknowledgements can’t help but remind me of Cliff Cardinal’s As You Like It each and every time (in a post-COVID world obsessed with one-person, set-less shows…bring it back).

And I think of White Girl in Danger whenever a bigger-boned black woman in a musical’s chorus is given the (inevitable?) opportunity to BELT BELT BELT.
