Has anyone ever seen a feature-length movie with designed subtitles throughout the entire duration?
For an example, watch the trailer for Armand:
But the actual movie has conventional subtitles — white text centered on the bottom of the screen. Outside of marketing materials, ornamented subtitles seem relegated to their use in Love Hurts, as kitschy one-offs.
Silents Synced releases have designed subtitles…for pre-existing movies, retroactively attached.
But I dream of a movie built from inception around this concept, with a mind towards the expressive potential of changing font styles, the placement of the words on screen, and how the text interacts with what’s in the image.
AgreeAssuming it would be so much more work & probably no return
