The Last Fiveteen Years

Theater companies love to adorn their building’s interior walls with photos of the productions that they want their audiences to remember.

And most choose to highlight older shows, probably to emphasize the institution’s longevity.

But Playwrights Horizons seems to have taken a different approach with the new pictures leading down to the basement bathroom:

The most geriatric is a mere 15 years young, which is infant by theater standards.

And it’s not like Playwrights Horizons has a shortage of classics closer to its 1971 founding; you may be familiar with a little musical called Sunday in the Park with George?

Honestly, this lobby redesign feels like a flex. Can another theater compile a comparable lineup from the last two decades?

Let’s analyze the positioning of these photos…

The display gives bookstairending pride-of-place to Stereophonic and A Strange Loop, Playwrights Horizons’ Tony Award-winning Broadway transfers.

And the only artists responsible for more than one production on the wall:

Robert O’Hara and Raja Feather Kelly.
