Locked makes me wonder if movies have already crossed the AI rubicon, at least when it comes to voice acting.
So far, it’s been easy to notice when a feature tries to use AI to recreate a human visually. But there’s no way to tell if Anthony Hopkins is responsible for his vocal performance in Locked…or if it’s an AI voice generator.
Adrien Brody was slapped with a similar accusation during The Brutalist’s Academy Awards campaign, but at least we can see that the purported AI is in collaboration with his physical performance.
It feels different to be unsure if almost the ENTIRETY of Hopkins’ “performance” in Locked is AI.
Bela Lugosi, Boris Karloff, Robert Englund, Doug Jones, Andy Serkis…and now Bill Skarsgård??
