Let’s play another round of “why does this production have an intermission?”

Or, in this case, why an interval?

The West End’s Fawlty Towers runs under two hours…INCLUDING a 20-minute interval. Audiences wouldn’t flinch at sitting for 100-minutes straight through (AKA: Stereophonic’s first act), so why the reprieve?

Besides additional concession sales, of course.

The rest allows the cast to maintain this manic comedy’s breakneck warpspeed; two sprints are easier than sprinting one marathon. . . a testament to the ceaseless relentlessness of Oh, Mary!’s original cast.

West End houses have curtains specific to the theater, unchanged from show to show. On the other hand side of the Atlantic, Broadway productions design their own curtains themed to the material.
