Burned Through

Does Bugonia’s DCP include the print’s mid-movie cue mark?

If not, the vast majority of its viewers will be deprived of this piece of interpretative material.

Bugonia’s print features a grand total of one (at least uber noticeable) cue marks, placed in between Emma Stone’s electrification and the black-and-white flashback to her medical interaction with Jesse Plemons’ family. The fact that a cue mark classically denotes a changeover seems related to the major changes that might be happening in the story — and to the characters — at the exact moment of this cut.

Why bifurcate the narrative here?

Either the truth of her queendom is finally revealed…or her brain’s zapped into believing his deluded fantasies.

In a way, the cigarette-burn sears through the fabric of the movie’s onscreen reality.

Can you say metaphorical?
