All Over

Simon Rich’s All franchise specializes in pulling a fast one on audiences.

All In initially hid the fact that this first installment would be a barely staged reading of short stories, barely adapted for the stage.

Anyone expecting All Out to be a continuation of the same should realize that a more accurate title for the show would be Gracie Lawrence in Concert on Broadway.

Luckily, she’s a star, but no one could have foreseen half the runtime being devoted to her musical performances.

AND, she helps to score the dialogue scenes.

AND, she acts in some of them.

She’s basically the lead of the production.

Alternating between comedy sketches and musical interludes, connected not by narrative but by theme…

Sounds like old-school Broadway to me!
