On Ice

Cold Storage is a small-scale alien movie written by…David Koepp?!

Safe to assume that Mr. Jurassic Park / Mission: Impossible is how this scrappy production could land the likes of Lesley Manville, Vanessa Redgrave, and Liam Neeson.

Combined with The Naked Gun, Neeson appears to be at an age-necessitated pivot in his action career.

Given its physical demands, the genre’s a younger-person’s game. Even with stunt doubles, a creaky body in the dialogue scenes won’t be believable when running, jumping, and throwing hands in the next.

Yet like the best of them, Neeson crossed this line years ago…

…which still hasn’t stopped him from trying.

But The Naked Gun and Cold Storage actually factor in his years.

His geriatricism is a source of self — and genre — spoofery in The Naked Gun (Jason Statham appears to be heading in a similar direction with his upcoming Jason Statham Stole My Bike), while Neeson’s defining trait in Cold Storage is a debilitating back, which informs his every move.
