In compiling my recent post recapping all of these VEINS entries, I realized that I somehow forgot to include this song. I wrote about it as a Single of the Week (read those words here), but it never found its way onto the list proper…UNTIL NOW.
That beat + those guests = deez nutz.
Literally the worst song that I nevertheless can’t get the fuck out of my head. The chorus is the epitome of an ear worm that slithers into lodging itself into the deepest crevices of your cavernous psyche. Sometimes it takes hearing a song in a different context — in this case, in the pre-show soundtrack to Clubbed Thumbs’ gonzo off-Broadway production of Will Arbery’s Plano — for its devilish effect to get the best of you. Giddy up, giddy up!
The cavalcade of rappers here (they call themselves a hip-hop collective) trade off bars relentlessly, like Migos at their best, a vast improvement over the conventional approach of each merely taking their own individual verses without interacting. More of this structure, please. Oh, and despite its name, the track bears no relation to Frozen, OBVI.
