2018’s been a banner year for movies financing soundtracks comprised entirely of new music by a bevy of many artists, a revived trend that will hopefully become tradition again for the foreseeable future. Though this album (and the movie, for that matter) may fall short of the benchmark — Kendrick’s Black Panther — it’s nonetheless an impressive, and impressively eclectic, collection of tunes, all of which maintain a cohesive tone and explore consistent themes revolving around Petie’s plight. If only the movie was anywhere near as good! The next goal for this trend: convincing filmmakers to use these songs in their actual films…
