Ignore Victorious to be Victorious

Slick producing can entail tricking ticket buyers.

Case in point:

1970’s Purlie is so much more famous than the 1961 play upon which it’s based, named Purlie Victorious, that fans of the former may not even realize it’s an adaptation at all.

So when this legion of musicalers see that Purlie Victorious has returned to Broadway, with Leslie Hamilton Odom in the lead, how many of them simply assume it’s Purlie, expecting Aaron Burr (sir) to croon, without checking the significance of the title’s added word?

Tricked into a quality time.
