A sizable subset of Colleen Hoover’s audience view her work as trashy smut.
(The haters would say it’s smutty trash).
But a contingent of her fanbase seems to truly believe — g’bless their hearts — that the quality of her writing stands toe to toe with the tippiest-top scribes.
And Hoover may count herself a member of this cohort, at least from time to time.
An egotism that makes her smut/trash (eye of the beholder) all the trashier/smuttier (ditto) for the rest of us.
*cough* Stephen King strikes a similar chord *cough*.
Josh Hartnett’s casting in Hoover’s Verity combines the two primary eras of his career; this new movie starts as one of his early romcoms…before transitioning into his latter-day pop horror.
Anne Hathaway’s 2026 is proof positive that I prefer her over the top — Mother Mary, Verity — more than straight down the middle (The Devil Wears Prada 2, The End of Oak Street, The Odyssey).
