2018’s SHOOT IT STRAIGHT INTO MY FUCKING VEINS List — January-February

2018’s SHOOT IT STRAIGHT INTO MY FUCKING VEINS List can only start with one song, technically a 2017 release but I didn’t properly dive in until 2018. It was robbed at the Academy Awards!

And then there’s this one, probably my most played on the soundtrack:

And one more to make it three, a holy trinity befitting the holiness that is THE GREATEST SHOWMAN!!! (note: I always skip the overly long and slow beginning and end):

Can we get back to “real music”? Please? Yo:

And now back to another song from a movie, an early contender for next year’s Best Song Oscar (it has no chance, partially because of anti-country bias, but also because my favorite songs rarely win; excuse me while I go pour one out for A Ghost Story’s “I Get Overwhelmed”):

I heart country music, and in 2018 I’m going to convince y’all to join the renaissance…or maybe it’s a reclamation…or a rejuvenation? A revolution?

Whatever it is, it’s new(ish), and I’ve been HERE FOR IT, from Avicci’s “Wake Me Up” through Thomas Rhett’s Life Changes, and more before, in between, and since. And then there’s this borderline country album, my fav of the year (I still haven’t listened to Black Panther). This song isn’t technically country…but those tracks might make this list when all is said and done!

And now, a song from my second favorite album of the year. This is my fav Migos ever (apologies to “Bad and Boujee”):

I’ve said it a million times before and now a million and one — he’s the electro-pop master:

I meeeeean this banger is technically a 2017 release…but since the album came out in 2018 (and I only started obsessively listening to it recently), I’ll allow it!

Probably not good enough to make the list, but I gotta rep a fellow Knicks fan:

Not many other rappers have such flow and can also sing the hook:

Everyone’s talking about “All the Stars”, but I always prefer songs actually used DURING a movie and not merely over the end credits. In an ideal world (ha!), this song would have a better chance to win next year’s Best Song Oscar. It’ll just have to settle for significantly contributing to one of the best sequences in Marvel history:
