From one of my 2019 favorites, to one of the year’s ugliest:
Black Mother
A documentary Our Town; a formal reconception of how to capture, and thus conceive of place, and a place.
Pokémon Detective Pikachu
Pika-Pika? More like Pukey-Pukey, amirite?!?!?! An embarrassing movie, for the vastest myriad of reasons. Any iota of support lavished upon this limp, impish IP-ish is tantamount to supporting the death of cinema. Or, to be more specific, cinema made for a purpose other than $$$$$$$$, a transparent intent that pours out of every poorly-CGI’d pore of the movie’s entire being. Basically, what I’m saying is that this summer’s slate of releases might actually kill me.
