You Can See

There’s dramaturgy.

And then there’s DRAMATURGY.

And then there’s whatever the fuck Im Dunkeln sieht man besser is.

The first 30 minutes seem to establish Leonie Bell and Local Grandma’s production at The Brick to be a series of sketch comedies, except replace the genre’s usual humor with a combination of existential clowning and absurdist surrealism; it’s contemporary clowning’s current brand of character work, but performed by an ensemble.

At first, the narrative connections between scenes remains hazy enough to be potentially nonexistent, even though they appear to overlap into each other…until one of these vignettes goes on and on, gradually revealing that we’ve been in a continuous plot all along, comprised of fragmented abstractions to be pieced together as much in the moment as in hindsight.

Paging Under the Radar and/or Exponential (in UTR’s post-Public era of co-production collaborations, why don’t they combine forces more often).

My page includes JACK’s Michael Haggerty’s Where Were You.
