Oops

A technical difficulty during my performance of Boop! doubled as a lesson in staging.

A stagehand must’ve forgotten to pre-set the chair that Stephen DeRosa spends most of “A Cure for Love” in, because he had to improvise a version of the choreography intended for a seated body…without a seat.

But this mistake — and the physical ingenuity it required to correct — completely elevated the number, a crash course in how adding an unconventional element to a typical scenario can electrify the entire scene.

Naysayers could gripe about pulling focus, but I trust audiences to be able to take it all in.

Oh, and if this blocking is scripted buffoonery designed to look like the live magic of theater…

Then kudos to all involved.
