PERSONAL SHOPPER (Olivier Assayas)

I could write a dissertation on the layered complexity of Olivier Assayas’ Personal Shopper, one of 2017’s absolute best.

But in the name of brevity, I want to celebrate one mundane detail that nevertheless conveys Assayas’ preternatural attention to detail: the movie accurately yet cinematically captures the text message experience, particularly the tension of waiting for a response in an emotion-filled conversation.
