WAR FOR THE PLANET OF THE APES (Matt Reeves)

A series of accolades regarding Matt Reeves’ War for the Planet of the Apes:

Give Andy Serkis his Oscar nomination already. It’ll cap a trilogies-worth of deserving performances unlike any seen before.

Same goes for the visual effects, which are overdue to bring home Academy Awards. Instead of the story calling for dazzling visual effects – the conventional relationship between the two – here the story is told THROUGH the visual effects, a rarity worth celebrating.

And now, for some lofty proclamations:

This is probably one of the best studio-franchise flicks OF ALL TIME.

What’s more, all together it’s probably one of the best trilogies ever? Also, do we need to re-define our conception of the trilogy? Like most franchises nowadays, there have been way more than three Planet of the Apes movies. But grouping them by similar creative teams and casts feels fair? That’s a topic worthy of a full post for another day..

But in the meantime, GO SEE WAR FOR THE PLANET OF THE APES.
