A documentary about a tragically-seminal modern event like Ferguson sounds almost essential given the current political crisis.
But Whose Streets? desperately needs more on-the-ground footage, because it doesn’t really provide a perspective on the situation that I hadn’t already experienced in some way; I’m not sure I learned anything new nor even now understand the reality of Ferguson differently.
Though getting to know the participants is of course an all-important way of humanizing an inhumane historical occurrence, directors Sabaah Folayan & Damon Davis spend too much time focusing on their personal lives utilizing rote documentary aesthetics.
